Police told WPLG they arrived at Alyssa Jimmie’s home in Miami-Dade County on May 20 to find her 7-month-old baby unconscious.

Jimmie allegedly admitted to leaving the infant in the tub with his 3-year-old brother with the water running, saying she was in the home’s garage doing her nails, WPLG reported.

Police told WTVJ that Jimmie said she felt comfortable leaving the children alone in the tub with the water running because there was a missing drain plug, which she felt would let the water freely flow down the drain.

Jimmie told police that when she came back to the bathroom after 5 to 10 minutes, she found it had been stopped up with a small face towel, and the tub had filled with water, WPLG reported. She saw the baby was unconscious while his brother was playing in the tub and began CPR, the station reported.

Jimmie allegedly told police her 3-year-old knew how to clog the drain with a towel to fill it, WTVJ reported.

Jimmie’s father attended her bond hearing and told the judge the drowning was an accident, WTVJ reported.
