Tim Perry started carving the pumpkins about 15 years ago.

“They are craft pumpkins, so I can save them and add more every year,” he told WJAR. “It’s like a mix of plastic and foam. I still have my original pumpkin from probably 15 years ago, so they last.”

It takes him about two weeks to set up the display, which is lit from 5 to 11 p.m. nightly through Halloween.

“I try to get it done by Columbus Day,” Perry said. “That way, people can start enjoying it. I do it all myself, so it does take a while and I have to run wires to every single pumpkin because I wire in the lights. Batteries just wouldn’t work.”

There are several themes including a stage dedicated to musicians both living and dead.

There are pumpkins carved with ghouls, ghosts, demons and other Halloween staples. Other pumpkins give homage to classic horror movies, books and shows.

“People love to pick out people they recognize,” Perry said.

Perry created a depiction of rocker and horror expert Rob Zombie as the 500th pumpkin.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic this year, Perry decided to make another addition to the Halloween display -- a candy chute to safely hand out treats.

“I’ve always loved Halloween and I’ve always been into art-type stuff,” Perry said. “It’s a way to relax for me. I work on computers for a living, so this is fun to do.”
