Thomas Rhett, Carrie Underwood share top honors at 2020 ACM Awards

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Thomas Rhett and Carrie Underwood shared Entertainer of the Year honors at the 55th Academy of Country Music Awards on Wednesday night.

For the first time, the awards ceremony was held in Nashville, Tennessee. The 2020 version, originally scheduled in April, was delayed until Wednesday night because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The 55th annual awards ceremony was held at the Grand Ole Opry House, Ryman Auditorium and Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. Keith Urban took the stage as a first-time host.

Original report: The ceremonies had been held the last three years in Las Vegas and was hosted the last two years by Reba McEntire.

Several winners were announced ahead of Wednesday’s broadcast on CBS, Rolling Stone reported. In mid-August, Urban told Tennille Townes and Riley Green during a Zoom meeting that they won the New Female Artist and New Male Artist awards, the magazine reported.

On Monday, Thomas Rhett won the Video of the Year category for “Remember You Young,” while Hillary Lindsey won her first Songwriter of the Year award. The Music Event of the Year award went to Miranda Lambert, who covered Elvin Bishop’s 1975 hit, “Fooled Around and Fell in Love,” with Maren Morris, Ashley McBryde, Caylee Hammack, Tenille Townes, and Elle King.
