HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A school resource officer relied on quick thinking and his training when he performed life-saving techniques on a student having a seizure Monday.
Deputy Pedro Colon, who has been with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office since 2003, sprang into action and started performing CPR when a student at Strawberry Crest High School started having a seizure at lunchtime, WFLA reported.
The incident was recorded on Colon’s body camera. After several minutes, the student becomes alert and sits up. The student was taken to a hospital for further care.

“Deputy Colon’s quick call to action was heroic and had it not been for his efforts, we might be looking at a very different situation today,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This incident goes to show the importance of the CPR training all of our deputies receive. It’s a prime example of being ready to serve when called upon. I want to thank Deputy Colon for giving this student a second chance at life.”
