Cribbins started his career on the stage after he left school in his early teens. He was first a stage manager and then had bit parts in regional repertory theater, The Associated Press reported.

Cribbins eventually made it to the West End, but transitioned to film and television.

He appeared in the 1060 comedy “Two-Way Stretch” with Peter Sellers and the original “Casino Royale,” the AP and Sky News reported.

Cribbins also had guest spots on “Fawlty Towers.”

But Cribbins may be best known for his role as Wilfred Mott, a friend of David Tennant’s Doctor Who, the AP reported. He is expected to be seen in an upcoming 60th anniversary special for “Doctor Who” in clips that were filmed earlier this year. Cribbins also was part of the “Doctor Who” 1966 spinoff “Daleks’ Invasion of Earth 2150,” the AP reported.

Over his 50-year career, he was almost never out of work, BBC News reported.

Cribbins also had a singing career in the 1960s with British hits “Right Said Fred” and “The Hole in the Ground,” BBC News reported.

“Bernard’s contribution to British entertainment is without question,” agent Gavin Barker said in the announcement of Cribbins death, the AP reported. “He was unique, typifying the best of his generation, and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him.”
