Coronavirus: Intoxicated Indiana woman who tested positive accused of biting medic

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — An Indiana woman who was allegedly intoxicated and tested positive for COVID-19 is accused of biting a medic while being treated, authorities said.

Elizabeth Wilson, 35, of South Bend, was charged with battery against a public safety official, according to St. Joseph County online booking records.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Wilson was an intoxicated patient on Sept. 4 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, WBND reported.

A hospital employee was attempting to keep Wilson in her treatment room but she refused, the television station reported, citing court documents.

According to the affidavit, Wilson was “combative and argumentative” while medical personnel attempted to restrain her, WBND reported. That was when Wilson allegedly bit one employee on the arm, breaking the skin of the victim, according to the affidavit.

Wilson was arrested by the Memorial Hospital Police Department, according to online booking records. She was released on Sept. 7 after posting $445 bail, according to St. Joseph County online court records.

Wilson is scheduled to make a court appearance on Tuesday, according to court records.
