According to The New York Times and The Washington Post, first lady Jill Biden took to social media Friday to announce the arrival of the family’s newest pet, a cat named Willow.

“Meet Willow!” she captioned a series of photos of the first feline, a gray tabby who hails from a Pennsylvania farm.

“Willow made quite an impression on Dr. Biden in 2020 when she jumped up on the stage and interrupted her remarks during a campaign stop,” spokesman Michael LaRosa said in a statement. “Seeing their immediate bond, the owner of the farm knew that Willow belonged with Dr. Biden.”

The 2-year-old cat’s name is a tribute to Willow Grove, Pennsylvania – Dr. Biden’s hometown.

The Bidens also have a German shepherd puppy, Commander, according to The Associated Press. Their previous dogs – also German shepherds – include Champ, who died last year, and Major, who was rehomed with family friends after displaying aggressive behavior at the White House, the AP reported.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
