Members of the Chandler Police Department teamed up to buy the boy a new wallet and replaced the $200 he lost on Dec. 30, KNXV reported.

Officers said the child was with his mother at the Walmart at about 9 p.m. when he dropped his wallet, which contained money saved from his birthday and for Christmas, the television station reported.

According to a news release, surveillance cameras at the Walmart captured video of a woman who picked up the wallet. She made no effort to return the wallet or locate the owner, police said, resulting in what authorities are considering a theft.

According to the news release, the woman reportedly left the store in a two-door black vehicle that had custom rims.

“Thank you to three of #ChandlerPD patrol teams who personally donated money and a wallet to make sure this young boy was able to enjoy his Christmas and birthday money,” the department wrote on Twitter and Facebook. “We would also like to thank the local businesses and community who have reached out asking how they could donate to the young boy.”

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the woman, who remains at large, or the vehicle, KNXV reported. Tips can be called in to 480-782-4130.
