Alyssa Milano tests positive for antibodies after negative COVID-19 tests, calls system ‘flawed’

Actress and activist Alyssa Milano took aim Wednesday at what she called a “flawed” testing system after a blood test revealed COVID-19 antibodies in her system despite multiple negative novel coronavirus test results.

“This was me on April 2nd after being sick for 2 weeks. I had never been this kind of sick,” Milano posted on Instagram. “Everything hurt. Loss of smell. It felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t keep food in me. I lost 9 pounds in 2 weeks. I was confused. Low grade fever. And the headaches were horrible. I basically had every Covid symptom.”

The “Charmed” and “Who’s the Boss” actress went on to detail her ordeal, complete with two negative COVID-19 tests and a negative finger prick test to detect the presence of antibodies in people who have had the virus.

Meanwhile, TODAY reported that NBC News contributor and virus expert Joseph Fair also endured a confusing testing experience. Fair was hospitalized for presumed COVID-19 based on his presentation of symptoms, but he tested negative four times for the virus and negative for antibodies as well.

“Symptomatically, yes, I thought I had COVID,” Fair told TODAY. “When I got the antibody results, I was even more confused. What would have caused almost identical symptoms and outcomes during the same time as a pandemic causing those things? I don’t know.”

Milano, who also shared an image of her positive antibody test result, said she plans on donating her plasma in the hopes of helping others, CNN reported.

She closed her now viral post by pleading with the public to take COVID-19 seriously.

“I just want you to be aware that our testing system is flawed and we don’t know the real numbers. I also want you to know, this illness is not a hoax. I thought I was dying. It felt like I was dying.,” she wrote.
