Courtney Gale is a finalist for a police chief’s job

Gale recovered from serious stabbing to return to police duty

University of Georgia Police Lieutenant Courtney Gale is named as one of three finalists to be the next police chief in Cleveland: Gale, interim Cleveland Chief Aaron Weiland, and Hall County Sheriff’s Captain Jeffrey Shoemaker have applied to replace former Chief John Foster, who retired at the end of last year.

Gale was stabbed and nearly killed in December of 2007, attacked while working an off-duty security detail at a Kroger Store on Baxter Street in Athens. She returned to active duty with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department in 2012 before moving on to her current post with the UGA Police Department.

The Cleveland City Council says it hopes to name the new chief by the end of the month.
