There are vending machines for everything: soda, snacks, books, headphones, cars and now COVID-19 tests.
Companies are starting to install vending machines that sell at-home COVID-19 test kits.
Earlier this month, the machines were rolled out at the University of California’s San Diego campus as the winter academic term began, Reuters reported.
School officials had planned to have almost 20 machines up and running for the program that they said was the first of its kind.
The tests are free and all 10,000 students living on campus are required to take a weekly test, according to Reuters.
Results are returned 12 to 24 hours after submitting.
A COVID-19 test vending machine has also been rolled out in New York City.
A test costs $119 and could be covered by insurance. Results are returned in about two days after sending with the provided FedEx label, NBC News reported.
Additional machines will be installed by the company, Wellness 4 Humanity, in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston and Dallas, Fox News reported.
The company states the tests are FDA authorized for at-home use.
