CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Things went from bad to worse for a fish that was plucked by a bird from a North Carolina lake then fell from its talons and onto a trucker’s windshield last week.

Video from the truck’s windshield camera shows the moment the bird drops the fish while the driver is headed along Interstate 73 near High Point.

“I just couldn’t believe it,” driver Barry Poff told WFMY. “It was just — just the clear view of the bird dropping the fish and hitting my windshield. It was just an amazing shot and just unbelievable.”

The video was posted Wednesday on social media by Ward Transport and Logistics, a trucking company with an office in Charlotte.

“One of our Charlotte drivers verifies that when driving a truck, you must be prepared for anything,” the company said on social media.

The video shows Poff crossing a lake when a bird is seen flying over a guard rail and in front of the truck’s path. The bird then drops the fish, believed to be a crappie, on the truck’s windshield. The windshield remains intact but smudged with the slurry of fish remains. There is no sound in the video so Poff’s reaction is not heard. The video shows he calmly slows and soon pulls over.

“No fish was (harmed) by me today,” Poff, commented Thursday on the video. “Yesterday (was) a different story.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
