The Classic Center- Athens, GA
11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014
The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia is now serving over 10.6 million meals to community residents. Residents like Anthony; a little boy whose parents are going through tough times right now and sometimes have to choose between paying rent and paying for food. Residents like Joe. Joe works two jobs, and even with his teenage son contributing to the household some night’s dinner just isn’t there. And then there is Helen. Helen is retired and living on a fixed income. Many times the bills for her prescriptions take too much out of her budget and she has to choose between paying for medicine and paying for food.
On March 5, from 11:30 to 1:30 at the Classic Center in downtown Athens, the Food Bank will be serving a simple lunch of soup and sandwich at the 16th Annual Empty Bowls Luncheon and Silent Auction to help ensure that Anthony, Joe, Helen and thousands of other residents like them don’t go to bed hungry. Choose from a homemade chicken salad or pimento cheese sandwich and one of ten soups prepared by local eateries like Home Made Catering, Brett’s Restaurant, Fresh Inspiration Café, The Last Resort, Classic City Chef, Harry’s BBQ, Mama’s Boy, Royal Peasant, Hilltop Grill, and Center Stage Catering. Along with this simple lunch each guest can select a handcrafted or hand painted Empty Bowl to take with them and keep as a reminder of all the empty bowls in our community. Each guest that attends will help the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia provide 80 meals.
